For the Pats, the formula is simple – win Sunday or in Week 17 and clinch their fifth straight AFC East title. For the Ravens, they can clinch at least a Wild card this week with a little help while wins in their two remaining games would ensure them a trip to the playoffs for the sixth straight season.

The Patriots are coming off a disappointing 24-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins last week – their first shot to clinch their division. Tom Brady had a good game despite being without Rob Gronkowski hitting Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola regularly. Brady on the whole is playing pretty well at the moment – he leads the league with 2,225 passing yards since Nov. 3, and he’s throw 14 touchdowns with four interceptions in that span.
But the Patriots have struggled on the road – losers of four of their last five games. At home this team is money but on the road they just can’t seem to get it done against good teams.
Defensively the Patriots have been OK – they are allowing 22.2 points and 372.7 yards per game. This unit needs to buckle down a bit down the stretch and give their ever-changing offense a little help.
The Baltimore Ravens are heating up at just the right time – they have won four straight games and five of their last six – some in crazy fashion. The defense has come around after a slow start and is top 10 in just about every category and Joe Flacco seems to be finally earning some of the $100 million contract he signed in the offseason.
This team controls its own destiny – just like the Patriots – winning out means a playoff spot. On paper, the Ravens still have what it takes to make a little noise. Some help from Ray Rice would be nice – he has had a tough year gaining just 601 yards on the ground and catching 49 passes.
It all comes down to Flacco. He has certainly limited mistakes – the Ravens have turned the ball over just four times in their last four games, much better than their ugly rate earlier in the season. Flacco is also getting time to throw the ball – the Ravens have allowed 42 sacks this season but have given up just four in the last three games. Flacco has and emerging Jacoby Jones at his disposal, Torrey Smith and Marlon Brown as well – there should be no excuse for a lack of passing success in Baltimore.

• NE are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games in Week 16.
• Under is 12-3-1 in BAL last 16 games in Week 16.
• BAL are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games in December.
• Under is 7-2 in BAL last 9 home games.
The Patriots are just 1-7 against the spread in their last eight road games and just 1-3-1 in their last five games against the Ravens. Hard numbers to ignore. The defending champs are playing their best football of the season and are at home this week to a team that has lost four of their last five games on the road. I’ll take the home team as they continue to further put a scare into the AFC.
